Medborgarskolan creates meeting places for those seeking knowledge, development, and experiences. Competent course and circle leaders inspire joyful and lifelong learning. Our core values are the individual at the center, development through collaboration, mutual respect, and the intrinsic value of knowledge. Medborgarskolan is divided into six regions. Medborgarskolan Nord is a non-profit association that, in addition to traditional adult education, also conducts corporate training and activities within the labor market area. Medborgarskolan Region Nord covers Västerbotten, Norrbotten, and Jämtland counties. The region has 15 local offices, approximately 50 employees, and around 1,000 course and circle leaders.
Do you enjoy cooking, trying new things in the kitchen, and teaching others at the same time? As a cooking course leader with us, you get to combine your interest in food with adult education, creativity, and wonderful human interactions. We are looking for someone who is curious, likes people, and wants to share their joy of cooking with others – whether you are a self-taught home cook or have worked professionally in a kitchen.
You will become part of a non-profit adult education organization with strong humanistic values. We believe in democracy, equality, openness, and that everyone can develop through learning and culture. With us, it is more important that participants dare to try than that every setup is Instagram-perfect.
What you will do
In this role, you lead cooking courses for participants with different backgrounds, ages, and experiences. You plan the setup, conduct the meetings, and ensure everyone feels welcome – whether they can boil an egg or are already making their own kimchi. You create a safe and relaxed atmosphere where it is okay to ask, try, and fail a little along the way.
- Plan and conduct cooking courses within the cuisines and areas you are passionate about
- Introduce techniques, recipes, and working methods in a simple, clear, and pedagogical way
- Create an inclusive group feeling where everyone gets space, support, and joy of food
- Keep order in the kitchen and ensure hygiene and safety work smoothly
- Adapt content, difficulty level, and pace according to the group's experience and interest
- Follow up on courses, evaluate together with participants, and come up with ideas for development
Who we think you are
You love food – period. You don't need to be a star chef, but you are confident in the kitchen and enjoy it when others learn something new. You like standing in front of a group, are curious about people, and thrive with both planning in advance and improvising a bit when needed.
- Have at least 2 years of experience in cooking, for example from personal interest, studies, or professional life
- Want to teach and enjoy leading groups at a relaxed and safe pace
- Are pedagogical, patient, and good at explaining step by step without complicating things
- Have good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing
- Have the possibility to work evenings and some weekends when courses are conducted
- Have a structured way of working and can plan both purchases, setup, and course content
Why you want to work with us
With us, you step into an environment where learning, creativity, and human development are at the center. You get colleagues who are passionate about adult education, culture, and knowledge dissemination, and who are happy to share both recipes and smart course setups. We work together, are receptive to new ideas, and believe that food, people, and conversations go hand in hand.
We offer flexible working hours with a focus on evenings and weekends, employment according to collective agreement with salary after agreement, as well as wellness allowance and health-promoting activities. You get the opportunity for continuous professional development, collegial learning, and long-term cooperation if we get along. The work environment is characterized by community, humor at the right level, and a clear belief that everyone can develop – both participants and course leaders.
Practical information
The position is located in Piteå, and the courses are conducted in our premises or other suitable kitchens. The working hours follow the course activities and are therefore mainly scheduled for evenings and weekends. Start date is by agreement. We welcome applicants with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives – this makes both the courses and the atmosphere around the table even better.
How to apply
Apply via our digital application form on our website. Attach your CV and a short cover letter where you tell about your experience with cooking, why you want to teach others, and what types of cuisines or dishes you like most. If you have held courses, study circles, or other activities before, you are welcome to describe it briefly. We review applications on a rolling basis.
